TAILORING THE TIME AND SKY. THE PORTUGUESE SIDÉRALE SCAFUSIA BY IWC

It is an honor to present the latest, most exclusive and most complicated mechanical watch ever created by IWC Schaffhausen
the Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia.

Maybe you would say that IWC was kind quiet this latest times but it is because in this last 10 years IWC was developing the stunning movement that gives life to their last creation.

This is simply a masterpiece that brings the universe to your wrist with a series of complex functions on this piece, lets take a look of it.

Starting with the face of the watch IWC has continued with the traditional Portuguese style, but in this occasion with a gorgeous tourbillon at 9 o’clock featuring the union of the classic tourbillon function with the constant-force mechanism that guarantees a precise and even rate for a period of at least 48 hours, after this the movement switches to the normal mode and advances at the rate of one-fifth of a second.

At four o’clock a power reserve indicator up to 96 hours and placed at twelve o’clock a sidereal time indicator, this indicator is time-keeping system used by astronomers on a 24-hour display.

The sidereal time is based on the time that is taken by a star to pass trough the same meridian twice and if you ask yourself if this is measurable… well… IWC just achieved to get a 11.5 second difference a year from the real time, impressive!!

In the back of the watch you will find something real special, well… it is customized depending on the owner location in the planet since the sky represented in every watch have the exact position of the sky viewed from certain location in earth featuring more than 1000 stars at their actual position.

I think this is a good time to mention that this watch is custom made for every client and it can contain up to 200 combinations of dial, case materials and straps.

Getting back (on the watch) you will find many complications on this dial such as solar time, sunrise and sunset, to achieve this the back dial change the opacity on the dial, around the celestial chart it is placed a perpetual calendar on two different discs together with a leap year display.
You will notice the two circles (yellow and red) in the center of the dial the yellow one representing the horizon is to represent the view that the owner will have of the sky on a specific day and time, the red circle represent the position of the rotation in reference to the sun.

This beautiful piece is made of 500 components and the price is around 750,000.00 CHF depending on the selected materials, but the good news is you will always receive the stunning alligator leather case with the winding mechanism for the crown.

We strongly suggest you to take a look into the amazing web site IWC have developed for this watch at http://www.iwc.com/en-us/collection/siderale/, we leave you with the lunching event video.
